The Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) is committed to meeting or exceeding the accessibility requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. § 794), as amended, and the Architectural Barriers Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. § 4151, et seq.), as amended.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act requires Federal agencies to provide individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in their programs and benefit from their services, including the provision of information to employees and members of the public.
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires Federal agencies to ensure that persons with disabilities (including employees and members of the public seeking information or services from an agency) have access to and use of Federal electronic and information technology (EIT) that is comparable to the access and use by persons who are not disabled. EIT includes computer hardware and software, websites, phone systems, and copiers. Under Section 508, all EIT developed, procured, maintained, or used by a Federal agency must be made readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities, unless it would impose an undue burden on the agency. The U.S. Access Board, an independent Federal agency whose primary mission is to promote accessibility for individuals with disabilities, has developed technical requirements and criteria used to measure conformance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (commonly known as the “Section 508 Standards”). The Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) requires that buildings or facilities designed, constructed (including additions), altered, leased, or financed by the United States after August 12, 1968 be accessible to individuals with disabilities. For more information, check out the ABA website.
