Launch Your Career: The DCSA Student Experience (DSE)

The DCSA Student Experience (DSE) is our premier summer internship program designed to immerse you in the world of national security. This paid, 10-12 week cohort is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive direct mentorship, and contribute to a mission that matters.

If you are interested in an internship for Summer 2027, please check this page again in Fall 2026 for application information and instructions.

Important: Do not send resumes directly to DCSA, as they will not be considered. All applications must be submitted through official announcements on USAJOBS during the open application period.

What to Expect: Your Summer Cohort Experience

As a student intern of the DSE cohort, you will be a full-time temporary federal employee. Your summer will be a structured, immersive experience that includes:

  • DCSA Orientation: A dedicated orientation designed specifically for students entering the federal workforce and our agency.

  • Direct Mentorship: Guidance from your supervisor and a delegated lead to help you navigate your projects and professional growth.

  • Leadership Training: Unique opportunities to build your leadership skills.

  • Guest Speaker Series: Engage with leaders and subject matter experts from across DCSA and the national security community.

  • Capstone Project: Showcase your work and accomplishments by presenting a capstone project at the end-of-cohort Student Showcase.

DSE Program Eligibility

Candidates must meet both the general DCSA requirements and the specific DSE program requirements.

DCSA Requirements DSE Program Requirements
Be a U.S. citizen. Be a full-time undergraduate, graduate, or Juris Doctor student at an accredited college or university.
Obtain and maintain the required security clearance. Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA at the time of application and throughout employment.
Complete a pre-employment drug test. Live in the local commuting area of your selected position during the summer cohort. Intend to complete two consecutive summer cohorts, with successful performance.Maintain full-time student status through the semester following the second summer cohort.

Important Notes on Program Conversion:

  • DCSA does not participate in the OPM Pathways Internship Program.

  • Completion of the DSE program does not guarantee appointment to a permanent position.

  • However, students who successfully complete the DSE program may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position, depending on mission needs, funding availability, and other organizational factors.
